【摘要】:Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthecokeresidue(fixedcarbon)ofcreosote,coaltar,andcreosote-coaltarsolutions.Ascoaltarsvaryintheircokeresiduevalues,themethodisthereforenotaquantitativeindexofthepercentageofcoaltarincreosote-coaltarsolutions.However,byspecifyingmaximumamountsofcokeresidueasdoneinAWPAStandardsP2andP12,themethoddoesservetolimittheamountofcoaltarinsuchsolutions;andbyspecifyingaminimumasinStandardP12itensuresthepresenceofsomecoaltar.FormerlythetestwasalsousedasacheckonthecleanlinessofAWPAP1creosote(absenceofcoaltar).TestMethodD38coversthesamplingofwoodpreservativespriortotesting.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SeeSection6forspecificprecautionarystatements.
